Funding Heavy Herb and Saving the Planet?! Pt. 1

Recently, I was going over my finances and I realized that I spend a lot of money on ordering food to my house or eating out. Ordering in has been a terrible habit of mine ever since the start of the pandemic, which is around the time I feel like they really refined food delivery apps such as Uber Eats and DoorDash.

At the same time, when I’m meeting with Jinxz we’ll be talking about a lot of different ideas or activities we want to execute with Heavy Herb and the big thing holding back a lot of these opportunities is a financial investment.

When we started Heavy Herb we were hesitant to put too much money into it because we weren’t sure what sort of returns it could generate. However, we’re now at a stage where we’re feeling more confident about the future of Heavy Herb and are pumping a bit more of our personal funds into it.

So, I thought, "What if I just stopped ordering in for the month of June?"

I think I’d end up with enough money that I could execute on one of our ideas, which is having me fly out to British Columbia to work with Jinxz in person for a week or two.

Jinxz and I have a lot of fun working over Zoom, but there are certain limitations to that process. We feel like if we could link up in person we could write a lot of material at once or finish some experiments we want to try out. Plus we could do some photoshoots and videos, which is impossible to do when you live on opposite sides of the country.

I think there’s a lot of aspects of the take out industry that tie into the general messaging we’re trying to develop for Heavy Herb. It’s a bi-product of urbanization that leads to pollution and the exploitation of it's users and delivery people. I’ll spend the next couple of newsletters sharing my experience not ordering in and let you know whether or not it leads to savings significant enough to have an impact on the future of Heavy Herb.
